Ectopial: Gastrointestinal Health and Constipation Management Formula

Ectopial eases the discomfort of your GI tract and works gently to help normalize your body’s natural flora, while promoting a bulking and release of stools during periods of constipation.

There are very few words in the English dictionary that bring about feelings of embarrassment, misery, and urgency when they are spoken.  One of these words is con-sti-pa-tion.

For those who’ve been unfortunate enough to experience it effects, “constipation” conjures up feelings of anxiety and discomfort.  Persons never experiencing its physical effects often have a different, often skewed view of what that word truly means.  So what is the actual definition of constipation and how does it relate to human health?

  • First and foremost, because you don’t have a bowel movement every single day does not mean that you’re constipated.  Normal elimination processes range from several times per day, to only several times per week.  Frequency of bowel movement is dependant upon the individual.

  • Secondly, constipation is a symptom, NOT a disease! Being a symptom, being constipated is an indicator the things are not working as they should in your Gastrointestinal (GI) tract.

  • Lastly, constipation’s true definition is having a bowel movement less than three times per week.  Constipation stools are hard, dry, small and extremely difficult to eliminate.

Not only do the many adverse symptoms of the condition cause people to strain when using the restroom, constipation results in feelings of bloating, or a sensation of a full bowel movement when not ‘indisposed.’  Our colon is our body’s sewer system.

Being constipated can put you at-risk for a multitude of other health problems including fecal impaction and hemorrhoids.  If we do not address issues of constipation effectively, toxic colon build-up, weight gain, low energy, and other long-term health problems can ensue.

With the administration of Progressive Health’s constipation formula, you may begin to regulate inflammatory processes throughout the body, while seeing marked improvements in bowel frequency and stool consistency.

Constipation, At a Glance:

Constipation affects approximately 80% of people at some point during their lives.  Thus, there is a high chance that you are, or will become, one of the nearly 5 million Americans who deal with issues of constipation on a regular basis.  In the United States alone, doctors deal with an average of 2.5 million people who seek medical advice and treatment for this irregularity.  The two types of constipation are:

  • Idiopathic Constipation: Constipation resulting from an unknown origin that does not respond to normal or conventional treatments.  This form may be caused or related to improper intestinal function; including irregular hormonal control, nerve, or muscular function in the colon, rectum, and/or anus.

  • Functional Constipation: Functional constipation indicates a healthy bowel that is not working properly, and is primarily the result of poor dietary habits and lifestyle.  This is the most common type of constipation seen in adults and children.

Of Note: Predominant symptoms of constipation resulting from IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) are categorized separately.

Cause:

As we consume food, it moves through the large intestine (i.e. the colon) water is absorbed.  Doing so allows stools, or waste products, to form.  Normally, muscular contractions push these waste products towards the rectum.

However, when the colon absorbs too much water, these stools can become very hard.  Additionally, if the colon’s muscle contractions or sluggish or slow, constipation can occur as the stools do not pass through the colon quickly enough to allow for proper elimination. Other primary causes of constipation:

  • Lack of fiber in the diet
  • Lack of physical exercise
  • Certain medications
  • Milk, or milk intolerance
  • IBS
  • Changes in normal routine (e.g. pregnancy, travel, aging)
  • Laxative abuse
  • Ignoring the urge to have a bowel movement
  • Dehydration
  • Underlying medical condition (e.g. stroke, diabetes, drug addiction)
  • Problems with colon and rectum
  • Irregularities in intestinal function (i.e. chronic idiopathic constipation)

Diagnosis
:

Most people can diagnosis themselves by examining certain lifestyle factors.  A review of diet, level of exercise, and bowel movement routines can provide indicators of constipation and help you to make any necessary corrections.  If adding fiber to your diet, engaging in more exercise, and drinking more fluid does not improve your constipation, contacting your doctor is recommended.

Your doctor will likely obtain a medical history and perform a physical and/or digital rectal examination.  If the symptoms indicate fecal impaction, or other severe conditions like colon polyps or cancer, your doctor may advise other tests.  These can include blood tests, plain abdominal x-rays, a barium enema, or sigmoidoscopy, where a tool is used to view the lower colon and assess it overall health.  The length of constipation depends on its cause.

Conventional Treatments:

Diet and lifestyle change, including obtaining more dietary fiber and getting more exercise, may prove to be the greatest cure for and determinant to constipation.  Most people who suffer from mild to moderate constipation need no other treatment.  However, if diet and lifestyle change are ineffective at promoting the frequency of bowel movements, laxatives, enemas, biofeedback training, and in the severest of cases, surgery may be required.

It is equally important to address laxative abuse.  Many people misuse or abuse laxatives and this action can prove extremely detrimental to one’s overall health.  Additionally, the FDA has proposed a ban on a specific classification of laxatives (stimulants) as ingredients in these products contain ingredients that have been shown to cause cancer.  Other problems attributed with the use, and overuse, of such products includes electrolyte imbalance and worsening in bloating and abdominal pain (bulk-forming laxatives).  All laxative products should be discontinued slowly to ensure that the natural ability for the colon to contract is properly restored.

Ectopial has been designed to provide You with a safe and natural alternative for effective constipation relief, without the use of dangerous laxatives and other invasive procedures.

Do You
:

  • Frequently strain during a bowel movement?
  • Have unusually lumpy or hard stool?
  • Have the sensation of obstruction or blockage?
  • Have fewer than three bowel movements per week?

If you said yes to more than one of these questions, the chances that you suffer from constipation is quite high.  However, this should come as no surprise to those of us living in Westernized societies, especially the United States.  As a whole, Americans do not obtain the 20 – 25 grams of fiber needed per day to ensure a proper and regular evacuation of wastes from our body.

Additionally, our lifestyle factors are on a consistent decline.  We are seemingly working and eating more of the wrong things, while sleeping and exercising less.  These factors put us at an increased risk for toxic colon build-up and constipation.  But before you take stance against these risks with an over-the-counter product, know that there exists a more complete, safer, and far greater effective option in what is Ectopial.

What’s Inside:

Psyllium seed husk - A systematic review of traditional treatments for constipation, conducted by researchers at the University of Iowa, concluded that evidence exists supporting the use of psyllium.  When compared with lactulose and other laxatives, psyllium is a more effective treatment for simple constipation (more normal, well-formed stools and fewer hard stools) with less adverse effects.

Probiotics: Lactobacillus acidophilus and bacillus- Probiotics are beneficial bacteria (or flora) that reside in the digestive tract and create a healthy gastrointestinal environment by restoring normal flora. Patients with constipation who were treated using yogurt containing Lactobacillus and rye bread reported that gastrointestinal symptoms resulting from the increase in fiber consumption were relieved.

Oat bran - A natural product, oat bran consists mainly of soluble fiber, which is beneficial in relieving constipation.  An open study showed a marked improvement in bowel frequency, stool consistency and pain on defecation, without side-effects.

Slippery elm (inner bark) - This botanical acts as a stool bulking agent, similar to psyllium, helping to relieve constipation.  The bark of this plant also softens the stool and is healing/soothing to the GI tract.

Althea officinalis (marshmallow) - Supplementing with Althea helps soften the stool, addressing a common problem in constipation. Additionally, the plant contains mucilage polysaccharides, similar to slippery elm, which are healing/soothing to the GI tract.

Buffered ascorbic acid (vitamin C) - Higher doses of the essentially nontoxic vitamin C soften the stool and increase the frequency of bowel movements.  Interestingly, children who suffer from chronic childhood constipation have higher levels of oxidative stress and lower levels of antioxidants like vitamins C and E.

With its extensive list of colon supporting nutrients, Progressive Health’s advanced constipation formula can help to re-nourish your body with the natural nutrients it needs to correct irregularities in GI function and health.
